Watan-A senior official in the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas confirmed to Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Tuesday that a delegation from the movement has left Doha and is heading to Cairo to discuss “new ideas” for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The official, who preferred to remain anonymous, told AFP that the delegation “will hold meetings with Egyptian officials regarding new proposals to reach a ceasefire,” noting that it includes “Khalil al-Hayya, the head of the negotiation delegation, along with several other leaders.”
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has waged an unrelenting war on Gaza, which international legal experts and human rights organizations—including Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and UN officials—have repeatedly warned may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Deliberate targeting of civilians and residential areas.

Destruction of critical infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and water systems.

Use of starvation as a weapon, through the complete blockade of food, water, and humanitarian aid.

Forced displacement of over 1.5 million residents, effectively rendering the majority of Gaza’s population homeless.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is currently reviewing a case brought by South Africa accusing Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, based on the scale, intent, and destruction documented over recent months.

UN agencies, including UNRWA, have warned that Gaza is nearing a state of “extreme hunger”, with children going to sleep starving and essential supplies nearly depleted.
