Watan-A U.S. federal judge issued a ruling on extending a temporary injunction that prevents the deportation of Palestinian student Mohsen Al-Mahdawi, who was detained by authorities due to his support for Gaza and Palestine.
According to a report published by CBS News on Wednesday, the judge announced the decision during a hearing in Vermont, where Al-Mahdawi was arrested while at the immigration office to complete his U.S. citizenship process.
On the other hand, Louna Drobi, Al-Mahdawi’s lawyer, confirmed that authorities “have no legal grounds” for his detention.
She added that Al-Mahdawi’s arrest was “a disgrace to the U.S. Constitution.”
On April 15, 2025, U.S. authorities detained Palestinian student Mohsen Al-Mahdawi, a student at Columbia University in New York City, due to his stance on the Israeli assault on Gaza.
Al-Mahdawi has had legal residency in the United States for 10 years and was arrested while in the immigration office in Vermont completing the final steps for his citizenship.
