Israeli Airstrikes Target Building in Beirut’s Southern Suburbs Amid Rising Tensions with Hezbollah

Escalation in Lebanon: Israeli Strikes and Violations Continue as Displacement and Casualties Mount.

Watan-An Israeli airstrike targeted a building in the Hadath area of the southern suburb of Beirut after a warning about the bombing, which caused panic among residents and led to a large-scale evacuation from the targeted location.

Immediately, ambulances rushed to the scene amid gunfire to prevent crowds from gathering. Video footage showed columns of smoke rising from the targeted building in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

Before the intense airstrike, the occupation targeted the building threatened with bombing with three warning airstrikes, with Israeli planes flying at low altitudes over the skies of the southern suburbs of Beirut. Lebanese authorities quickly closed all roads leading to the site threatened by the Israeli bombing.

Martyr in Hilta, Southern Lebanon

Earlier today, a Lebanese person was martyred in an airstrike carried out by an Israeli drone on the town of Hilta in southern Lebanon. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that “the airstrike carried out by the Israeli enemy using a drone on the town of Hilta resulted in a martyr.”

Media outlets affiliated with Hezbollah mentioned that “the hostile drone targeted the outskirts of the towns of Hilta and Wadi Khensa, hitting a poultry farm.” Later, the Israeli military confirmed carrying out an airstrike on Hilta, claiming to have killed a Hezbollah member. Since the ceasefire, Israel has been conducting airstrikes on Lebanon, claiming to target Hezbollah members or weapons and ammunition warehouses related to the group.

Earlier this week, the Israeli army announced the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hussein Attawi in a targeted strike on his vehicle in the Shouf region of Mount Lebanon, alleging that he was behind missile attacks on Israel.

Israeli Violations and Hezbollah’s Resistance

While Israeli violations continue, Lebanon is calling on the international community to pressure Israel to stop these actions. Official efforts are ongoing in Lebanon to find a solution for disarming Hezbollah, which has recently intensified its rhetoric on the issue. The priority remains halting Israeli aggressions, withdrawing from five key points, and securing the release of Lebanese prisoners before any discussions about disarmament.

Hezbollah Secretary-General, Naeem Qassem, emphasized last Friday that there are three main rules that must govern any dialogue: First, the protection of Lebanon’s sovereignty and land liberation, and the cessation of all forms of Israeli aggression against it. Second, the utilization of resistance power and weaponry within a defensive strategy aimed at achieving liberation and protection. Third, rejecting any steps that weaken Lebanon or lead to its submission to Israeli occupation. He stressed that these three principles must guide discussions about any future defense strategy.

Since the ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel on November 27, 2024, Israel has committed 2,765 violations, resulting in 194 martyrs and at least 486 injuries, according to Anadolu Agency statistics. On October 8, 2023, Israel launched an aggression against Lebanon that escalated into a wide-scale war on September 23, 2024, leaving over 4,000 martyrs, nearly 17,000 injured, and approximately 1.4 million displaced.
