Houthis Target U.S. Aircraft Carrier Truman and Israeli Sites in Escalating Red Sea Conflict

Houthi forces claim strikes on U.S. naval assets and Israeli targets in retaliation for deadly American airstrikes in Yemen.

Watan-The “Ansar Allah” (Houthi) movement in Yemen announced on Monday that it had targeted the U.S. aircraft carrier Truman and its accompanying naval vessels, in addition to striking a vital Israeli target within the occupied Palestinian territories.

In a statement, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said their forces engaged the Truman and its accompanying warships through a combined sea, air, and missile operation using multiple cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones over the past several hours.

The statement added that the operation forced the Truman to retreat and reposition itself far to the north of the Red Sea. It emphasized that the operation was carried out in retaliation for recent U.S. massacres committed in Yemen—specifically in Sanaa and Saada—which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries.

The Houthis confirmed they would continue targeting and pursuing U.S. aircraft carriers and hostile naval forces in the Red and Arabian Seas until the aggression against Yemen ends.

In parallel, they announced an attack on a critical Israeli target in the occupied Ashkelon area, using a drone named “Yafa.” The statement reiterated their commitment to continuing to prevent Israeli navigation in the Red and Arabian Seas, resisting U.S. aggression, and supporting their “brothers in Gaza” until the war against them ends and the siege is lifted.

Deadly U.S. Airstrikes in Yemen

On Sunday night, U.S. airstrikes targeted three homes in the Thaqban area of Bani al-Harith district, north of Sanaa, resulting in the deaths of eight civilians, including women and children, and injuring several others.

Additionally, early Monday morning, American airstrikes hit the detention center in Saada, killing 60 African migrants and injuring 65 others, according to the Houthi-run Ministry of Health.

Al-Masirah TV, affiliated with the Houthis, reported that the targeted detention facility was housing 115 African migrants. Rescue teams continue to recover bodies from the rubble amid severe destruction caused by the American bombing.

The Houthi Ministry of Interior noted that the shelter was operating under the supervision of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Red Cross, describing the attack as a “full-fledged war crime.” The Houthis blamed the U.S. administration entirely for the atrocity, calling the targeting of civilians and migrants another crime added to the long record of U.S. violations against the Yemeni people and humanity.

Houthi Attacks on Israeli Ships in the Red Sea

Background on Escalation

Since mid-last month, U.S. forces have continued targeting cities and sites in Yemen, leading to dozens of civilian casualties, including women and children, destruction of residential buildings, and widespread power outages.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump vowed that Iran would be held accountable for every shot fired by the Houthis in Yemen. Since November 2023, the Houthis have intensified their attacks using ballistic missiles, drones, and naval vessels against Israeli, American, and British ships in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Arabian Sea. They have also targeted Israeli sites inside the occupied Palestinian territories in retaliation for the ongoing genocide war in Gaza.
