Watan-Swedish police announced on Tuesday that several people were injured in a possible shooting incident in the city of Uppsala, without providing further details about the circumstances.
In a statement, the police said they received calls from citizens who reported hearing sounds resembling gunfire in the city center. Police confirmed that emergency services are on the scene.
The statement added: “Several individuals were found with injuries consistent with gunfire.”
A local hospital declined to comment on the condition of the injured.
Police said they have cordoned off a large area and launched an investigation into the incident.
In February, Sweden witnessed its deadliest mass shooting when a 35-year-old unemployed man opened fire at students and teachers in an adult education center in the city of Örebro, killing ten people.
Following that tragedy, Sweden’s right-wing government announced plans to tighten gun ownership laws.
