Watan-A recent poll reveals that U.S. President Joe Biden, the Democratic candidate for the 2024 election, is leading his main rival, former President Donald Trump, the likely Republican candidate, in critical swing states that are major battlegrounds in the electoral contest.

Earlier this year, both Biden and Trump secured enough primary victories to clinch the Democratic and Republican nominations, respectively, for the 2024 presidential election.

Polls indicate that the results will be close, with Biden and Trump statistically tied in most surveys or only having marginal leads.

However, swing states will play a decisive role in determining the election outcome due to the Electoral College, which allocates a specific number of electoral votes to each state based on its population.

A presidential candidate needs 270 electoral votes to win, and winning the popular vote nationwide does not guarantee victory.

As the race remains highly volatile and far from reaching any definitive conclusion, Newsweek points out.

Meanwhile, Biden and Trump are scheduled for their first debate on June 27, with a second debate set for September.

Key States

A new CBS poll, published by YouGov last Sunday, shows Biden leading Trump in key swing states with 50% to Trump’s 49% in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

The poll, which surveyed 2,063 U.S. adults, including 1,615 registered voters, was conducted from June 5 to 7.

According to the poll, 54% of potential Biden voters said their main reason for supporting him is opposition to Trump, rather than necessarily liking Biden, which was cited by 27%.

However, nationally, the poll shows Trump leading Biden with 50% to Biden’s 49%.

Sunday’s poll follows other surveys last month in competitive states that showed Biden trailing Trump or other candidates by significant margins.

A Bloomberg poll released in May showed Trump leading Biden in Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, while the two were tied in Nevada, and Biden held a slight lead in Michigan.

Additionally, polls conducted by two firms, one Democratic and one Republican, indicated that Trump would likely defeat Biden in six key states if the 2024 election were held in May. This poll included 3,969 voters in seven states and was conducted from May 6 to 13.

Trump led in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, with a tie in Wisconsin.

However, in June, swing state polls conducted by Florida Atlantic University (FAU) indicate that Biden is making gains in three key states.

In Wisconsin, including third-party candidates, 38% of respondents said they would vote for Biden, while 31% would vote for Trump, according to the poll.

Under similar circumstances in Michigan, 41% said they would vote for Biden, and 39% said they would vote for Trump.

In Pennsylvania, Biden would also win with 41% of the vote compared to 39% for Trump.

Biden narrowly won these states in the 2020 presidential election, flipping all three from Trump after his victories in these key states in 2016.

In 2020, Biden won Michigan by 2.8% of the vote, Pennsylvania by 1.2%, and Wisconsin by less than 1%.
