West Bank Detainee Numbers Surge to 9,465 Amid Ongoing Israeli Arrests
The number of detainees in the West Bank has risen to 9,465 since October 7

Watan-The number of detainees in the occupied West Bank has reached 9,465 since October 7, following the Israeli army’s arrest of 16 Palestinians on Sunday evening and Monday morning.

In a joint statement received by Anadolu Agency, the official Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners Club (a non-governmental organization) reported that “the total number of arrests since October 7 has exceeded 9,465.” The two organizations clarified that this total “includes those who remain in detention and those who were later released.”

The statement noted that “since last night until this morning, Israeli occupation forces arrested at least 16 citizens from the West Bank, including a student at Birzeit University, children, and former prisoners.” Additionally, five residents of Gaza who were in the West Bank accompanying patients were also arrested.

The arrests were concentrated in the governorates of Ramallah (central), Hebron (south), Nablus, and Tubas (north).

Since October 7, alongside its war on Gaza, the Israeli army has intensified its assaults in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, resulting in the deaths of 554 Palestinians and injuries to about 5,300, according to the Ministry of Health.

Supported by the United States, the Israeli war on Gaza has resulted in approximately 125,000 Palestinian casualties, mostly children and women, with over 10,000 missing persons, extensive destruction, and famine that has claimed the lives of dozens of children.

Despite UN Security Council resolutions demanding an immediate halt and orders from the International Court of Justice to end the invasion of Rafah (south), take measures to prevent genocide, and improve the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, Tel Aviv continues its military operations.
