Watan – In a recent turn of events, Kuwait University’s decision to implement gender segregation has been met with criticism from within its academic community. Dr. Ahoud Nasser Al-Hajri, a respected member of the university’s teaching faculty, has publicly expressed her reservations about the decision.

Dr. Al-Hajri questioned the rationale behind viewing the coexistence of male and female students in an academic setting negatively. She pointed out that if such interactions were inherently problematic, they wouldn’t be a part of religious practices like Hajj and Umrah in neighboring Saudi Arabia. These religious events see men and women from all over the world come together in close proximity, emphasizing unity and shared purpose.

Furthermore, Dr. Al-Hajri highlighted the benefits of a co-educational environment. She believes that allowing male and female students to interact and engage in academic discussions can significantly enhance their communication skills and broaden their perspectives. Such interactions, she argues, prepare students for real-world scenarios where they’ll need to collaborate with people of different backgrounds and genders.

The decision by Kuwait University has sparked a broader debate on gender roles and segregation in educational institutions. While some argue in favor of traditional values and separate learning environments, others, like Dr. Al-Hajri, advocate for a more progressive and inclusive approach to education.
