Matthew Huttel, Capitol Rioter Pardoned by Trump, Fatally Shot by Indiana Police

Incident follows a confrontation during a traffic stop, reigniting discussions around pardoned Capitol attackers and their subsequent legal troubles.

Watan-The American police in Jasper County, Indiana, shot and killed Matthew Huttel, 42, who was accused of storming the Capitol in 2021 and had been pardoned by President Donald Trump.

According to state police, Huttel resisted arrest after officers stopped his car in the northwest part of the state, leading to a confrontation with one of the officers.

Their statement clarified that a scuffle broke out between the suspect and the police officer, “resulting in him being shot and sustaining fatal injuries.” Police confirmed that Huttel was armed, without providing further details.

The Capitol Attack

Huttel was one of approximately 1,500 Trump supporters accused or convicted of participating in the January 2021 Capitol attack. Trump issued a blanket pardon for them at the start of his second term, sparking widespread controversy and criticism from Democrats and even some Republicans.

Huttel was sentenced to six months in prison for his role in the Capitol attack and was released in July.

It was also revealed that his uncle, who also participated in the attack, was sentenced to 30 months in prison after pleading guilty to assaulting a police officer with a flagpole.
