Egypt Proposes New Ceasefire Plan for Gaza as Israel Resumes Military Escalation

Cairo Seeks to Mediate a Truce Amid Intensified Israeli Airstrikes, Rising Civilian Casualties, and Diplomatic Pressure.

Watan-Egypt has presented a new ceasefire proposal for Gaza, following Israel’s abandonment of the previous ceasefire agreement. The proposal aims to bridge differences between Hamas’ earlier approved offer—which included the release of Israeli-American soldier Alexander Aidan and five bodies of detainees—and the plan put forward by U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Wietkoff, which proposed the release of half of the living hostages and half of the deceased held by Hamas.

Key Points of the Egyptian Proposal

The Egyptian initiative includes:

  • A ceasefire in Gaza
  • Reopening of the Rafah crossing for the evacuation of wounded Palestinians
  • Entry of humanitarian aid and relief supplies
  • In exchange, Hamas would release a number of wounded Israeli captives and the bodies of dual-national detainees, with both sides negotiating the exact numbers after agreeing to the humanitarian framework

If accepted, the proposal aims to restore calm first, paving the way for renewed negotiations on a permanent ceasefire.

The Palestinian death toll in Gaza has surged to over 330, with most victims being women and children
Dozens remain missing under the rubble as bombardment continues.

Egypt Fears Israeli Escalation Will Last Until End of Ramadan

According to Egyptian assessments, Israel’s latest military escalation in Gaza may not stop before the end of Ramadan, based on intelligence about Israeli preparations.

Senior Egyptian security and military officials held high-level talks this morning with Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir and Mossad Chief David Barnea, urging Israel to ensure the safety of Egyptian personnel in Gaza—including doctors, aid workers, and security teams monitoring movements at the Netzarim axis.

Israeli officials offered to establish safe corridors for the evacuation of Egyptian personnel, allowing them to return via the Kerem Shalom border crossing.

Egypt and Kuwait Condemn Israeli Attacks

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held a phone call with Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to discuss regional developments and bilateral cooperation.

Both leaders strongly condemned Israel’s renewed aggression against Gaza, which has led to the deaths of hundreds of civilians, including children and women, in what they described as a blatant violation of international law and the ceasefire agreement.

The two leaders warned that continued Israeli attacks could escalate humanitarian suffering, widen the regional conflict, and undermine peace efforts. They urged the international community to intervene immediately to enforce a ceasefire and push for the two-state solution, ensuring the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
