Watan-The Israeli Air Force launched a series of airstrikes in Syria on Wednesday night, targeting in particular the vicinity of a scientific research center in northern Damascus and areas near the city of Hama in central Syria, according to state media reports.
The official news agency SANA reported: “An airstrike by the Israeli occupation targeted the area around the Scientific Research Center in the Barzeh neighborhood of Damascus,” in addition to “an Israeli airstrike targeting the outskirts of the city of Hama.”
Residents in the capital, Damascus, said they heard “multiple loud explosions caused by an Israeli airstrike targeting the Scientific Research Center in Barzeh.”
The Scientific Research Center has been targeted by Israeli strikes in previous years, with one of the most intense occurring on December 10 of last year.
Israel has conducted air raids in Syria for years during the rule of former President Bashar al-Assad, targeting what it describes as military sites linked to Iran and weapons transfers from Tehran to Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
