Mass Resignations at Tangier Med Port Over Alleged Arms Shipment to Israel

Moroccan Workers Protest Danish Shipping Giant Maersk’s Role in Alleged Military Cargo to Israel Amid Gaza War.

Watan-Tangier Med Port in northern Morocco has witnessed a wave of resignations among employees of the Danish company Maersk, in protest against what they described as the company’s involvement in unloading a shipment of weapons destined for Israel, amid the ongoing war on Gaza.

According to the electronic newspaper Hespress, at least eight workers have submitted their resignations, including senior staff with access to cargo details. These workers revealed that the company exerted intense pressure on them to carry out the unloading, using deceptive methods such as changing serial numbers to conceal the military nature of the shipment.

Last Sunday, the city of Tangier witnessed a massive protest march towards the Tangier Med Port. Demonstrators condemned what they saw as “Morocco’s involvement in supporting the Israeli war machine by facilitating the passage of weapons and military spare parts,” chanting slogans like “Our ports are not bridges for genocide” and “No loading… No unloading… No support for Zionist terrorism.”

BDS Morocco Slams Arms Transit, Warns of War Crimes Link

Despite heavy security restrictions, hundreds participated in the protest, reflecting the growing public outrage as awareness spreads about the dangers of turning Morocco’s infrastructure into a link in the ongoing chain of atrocities in Gaza.

In a new statement, the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement in Morocco reaffirmed its commitment to opposing the docking of ships loaded with spare parts for Israeli fighter jets. The movement denounced the security clampdown on protesters, calling it a “blatant bias in favor of the occupation and a disregard for the will of the Moroccan people.”

The BDS movement also highlighted the dangers of unloading equipment used to service F-35 fighter jets, which are involved in massacres in Gaza and attacks on neighboring countries, warning that Morocco is becoming “a logistical gateway for documented war crimes.”
