U.S. Airstrikes Kill Dozens of African Migrants in Yemen Amid Rising Civilian Casualties
Houthi authorities report 68 migrants killed and 47 injured in a U.S. airstrike on a detention center in Saada, highlighting the escalating humanitarian toll of ongoing attacks.
Watan-The civil defense affiliated with the Houthi group in Yemen announced today, Monday, that 68 African migrants were killed and 47 injured as a result of a U.S. airstrike targeting a detention center for undocumented migrants in the city of Saada.
This comes just hours after eight people, including women and children, were killed in American airstrikes that targeted three homes in the Thaqban area of Bani Al-Harith District, north of the capital, Sana’a.
Earlier today, the Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah TV reported dozens of casualties among detainees at one of the centers for African migrants in Saada due to the U.S. bombardment of the city’s reserve prison. The channel stated that “the targeted reserve prison, attacked by American forces, housed around 100 African migrants,” adding that 35 bodies had been recovered so far, while civil defense teams continued to extinguish fires and search for nearly 30 people still trapped under the rubble.
U.S. Intensifies Airstrikes Across Yemen, Killing Hundreds and Targeting Key Houthi Sites
Houthi sources also reported yesterday, Sunday, that American warplanes conducted six airstrikes on Al-Jabal Al-Aswad in the Harf Sufyan District of Amran Governorate, in addition to three more strikes on the same district. U.S. aircraft also launched three airstrikes on various areas in the Kitaf District of Saada Governorate, northern Yemen.
Since mid-March, the U.S. military has continued its attacks on cities and sites across Yemen, resulting in dozens of civilian casualties—including women and children—destroying residential buildings, and causing power outages in several areas. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has vowed that Iran will be held responsible for every shot fired by the Houthis in Yemen.
Since November 2023, the Houthi movement has been launching ballistic missile and drone attacks, as well as maritime raids against Israeli, American, and British ships in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Arabian Sea. They have also targeted Israeli sites within occupied Palestinian territories in retaliation for the ongoing genocide war in Gaza.
The U.S. military announced yesterday, Sunday, that it had targeted over 800 sites in Yemen since March 15.
According to U.S. Central Command in the Middle East, “Since the start of Operation Noble Lance/Rough Rider (the names given to the military campaign), CENTCOM has struck more than 800 targets. These strikes have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Houthi fighters, including senior leaders, as well as top missile and drone operators.”
