Israel Releases Paramedic Detained During Rafah Ambulance Strike That Killed 15 Aid Workers

Assad Al-Nsasrah Among 10 Released Detainees as Rights Groups Condemn Harsh Conditions and Ongoing Arbitrary Arrests in Gaza.

Watan-The Palestinian Red Crescent announced on Tuesday that Israel has released paramedic Assad Al-Nsasrah, who was arrested during an Israeli military attack on ambulance vehicles in Rafah, which led to the killing of 15 paramedics and humanitarian workers.

In a brief statement, the Red Crescent said: “The occupation forces have just released paramedic Assad Al-Nsasrah, who was detained on March 23, 2025, while performing his humanitarian duty during the massacre of medical teams in the Tel Al-Sultan area in Rafah Governorate, which resulted in the martyrdom of 8 Red Crescent ambulance staff.”

Al-Nsasrah was one of ten Palestinian detainees released by Israel after being imprisoned during the ongoing genocide war in Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023.

A medical source reported that the ten released detainees were transferred through the Israeli military checkpoint at Kisufim, east of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, and taken to “Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital” for medical examinations.

The source described the condition of the released prisoners as dire due to the treatment they endured in Israeli detention.

Israel occasionally releases groups of Palestinians it has arrested since the beginning of the genocide.

On April 17, the Palestinian Prisoners Club stated that Israel has detained thousands of Gaza residents since October 7, 2023, under extreme secrecy and with cases of enforced disappearance.

The statement added that the detainees are held in “harsh and horrifying conditions designed to inflict maximum harm.”
