Amal Clooney Faces Possible U.S. Entry Ban Over ICC Work on Israeli War Crimes Case

UK human rights lawyer and wife of George Clooney may be sanctioned for advising the International Criminal Court on Gaza-related investigations involving Netanyahu and Galant

Watan-According to the British newspaper Financial Times, human rights lawyer and activist Amal Clooney, the wife of American actor George Clooney, may face a U.S. entry ban due to her legal consultations provided to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in cases involving Israel.

As reported by Fox News, Clooney—who is British of Lebanese descent—offered legal advice on a case concerning alleged war crimes committed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant during the war on Gaza.

This warning comes after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order in February accusing the ICC of “illegitimate and baseless actions” targeting the United States and its ally, Israel.

Amal Clooney Among ICC Lawyers Facing Possible U.S. Sanctions and Travel Ban

The British Foreign Office recently warned lawyers working with the ICC, including Amal Clooney, that they could face sanctions such as asset freezes and U.S. travel bans if they are deemed to fall under the scope of the executive order.

The order allows the U.S. government to impose “concrete and significant sanctions” on individuals it holds responsible for the ICC’s so-called overreach. Measures could include revoking U.S. visas for the individuals and their immediate family members, and freezing any assets they hold within U.S. jurisdiction.

Others potentially affected by the order include the ICC’s Chief Prosecutor, British national Karim Khan.

Amal Clooney, 47, is one of the world’s most prominent international human rights and legal experts. She practices law in both the UK and the U.S. and currently resides temporarily in New York City with her husband George Clooney, who is starring in a Broadway adaptation of Good Night and Good Luck, based on the film of the same name.
