Watan – Egyptian satirist Bassem Youssef has been trending due to his comments analyzing the ongoing Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip. During an interview with journalist Piers Morgan, Youssef expressed his astonishment at the situation, using a colloquial term that translates to “Seriously?”
In the same interview, Youssef managed to corner Morgan, leading him to inadvertently admit that Israel’s logic resembles that of the terrorist organization, ISIS. Youssef questioned the rationale behind Israel’s extensive bombing of Gaza, asking if such actions would truly make Israel safer. Morgan responded by stating that Israel’s declared goal is to eliminate Hamas, acknowledging the challenges of doing so without causing significant collateral damage.
Youssef then pointed out that if Israel’s strategy is essentially to pressure the Palestinian community in Gaza to turn against Hamas, then this is essentially a form of terrorism. He highlighted that terrorist organizations employ such tactics when they cannot defeat a nation in battle. They resort to terrorizing and killing to pressure governments to change their policies or resign. Youssef cheekily remarked that the headlines would read, “Piers Morgan says Israel is like ISIS,” to which Morgan quickly clarified that he did not make such a comparison.
It’s worth noting that Bassem Youssef’s wife, Hala Diab, is from Gaza, and they currently reside in the United States with their two daughters.
