Sheikh Al-Azhar did not ask Arab rulers to cut off oil and expel ambassadors to pressure the West
Watan – Despite his honorable stance on the events in Palestine and issuing fiery statements that explicitly condemn the crimes of the occupation and support the Palestinians and the resistance, there were statements attributed to Sheikh Al-Azhar, Ahmed Al-Tayeb, regarding this matter that he did not make, but they were heavily promoted on social media platforms.
The statements, shared by verified prominent accounts, including that of the prominent broadcaster on “Al Jazeera” channel, Khadija Ben Qanna, attribute to Ahmed Al-Tayeb saying: “Arab rulers say they need Western countries to pressure Israel, and I tell them that you need to pressure the West by cutting off relations, withdrawing ambassadors, and cutting off supplies, whether oil or otherwise. Only then will the West be pressured and then pressure them.”
However, upon investigation, it was found that these statements were not published by “Al Jazeera Egypt” or any other official sources. The image that was circulated on social media platforms, Facebook, and Twitter, attributing the statement to Sheikh Al-Azhar, dated October 20, 2023, turned out to be “incorrect”. The official page of Al-Azhar or news websites did not publish these statements.

Sheikh Al-Azhar expressed his deep sorrow for what is happening to the innocent Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the crimes committed by the Zionist entity against them, including depriving them of water, medicine, and food. He emphasized that the Islamic and Arab nation has the potential to stand against this weak entity that targets innocent civilians to showcase its strength to the Western world that blesses its crimes and colludes with it.
