Gaza’s tragedy unveiled: newborn’s struggle amidst forced displacement

Watan-Activists on social media are circulating a heartbreaking video of a newborn baby girl, not more than 10 days old, born inside one of the displacement centers in the southern Gaza Strip. The family of the infant tragically drowned in rainwater due to the severe weather conditions.

The video depicts the mother of the newborn shaking her, while the father is seen trying to clear water channels after the family was submerged by heavy rainfall inside one of the displaced centers in the southern Gaza Strip.

The plight of Palestinian refugees worsens within the shelter centers they sought as a safe haven in the southern Gaza Strip. This is exacerbated by adverse weather conditions and a shortage of basic necessities to protect them from the ongoing heavy rains and the cold winter season.

Many displaced Palestinian families in Gaza have resorted to using traditional methods such as clay ovens to cook food and provide warmth during the cold winter season. This comes as a result of the Israeli occupation imposing a comprehensive blockade on the Gaza Strip, restricting the entry of fuel, food supplies, and cutting off water and electricity since the start of the Israeli war on the region on October 7th.

Forced Displacement in Gaza

The Israeli occupation has committed massacres against civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, during its ongoing war on Gaza. These atrocities involve the shelling of residential neighborhoods, homes, hospitals, schools, mosques, and churches, targeting the inhabitants without prior warning.

Additionally, the Israeli forces have implemented a policy of forced displacement, compelling civilians to move from the northern areas and the city of Gaza towards the southern Gaza Strip, using force and threatening to bomb their homes if they remain.

More than 12,000 Palestinian martyrs, the majority of whom were civilians, have lost their lives, and around 29,000 have sustained various injuries during the Israeli war on Gaza, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health as of the time of this report.
