Watan-The Palestinian boy Roshdi Abu al-Rous, aged 15, displaced with his family from Gaza City to its center, once dreamed of becoming a football player. However, his aspirations were shattered by the Israeli occupation after he was paralyzed during a bombardment on his way to fetch water for his family.
In a video captured by Palestinian journalist Osama al-Kahlout, Roshdi Abu al-Rous says, “I was going to fetch water for my family. We were displaced from Gaza, and there was a water crisis for my family. Sometimes I used to stand in line.”
“I had aspirations of becoming a football player”
“I had dreams of becoming a football player,” continued the injured boy Abu al-Rous. “As I was going to fetch water, they bombed a house in the area. A shrapnel hit my back, broke my spinal column, and two fragments hit my leg. I can’t move. I want to walk again and return to my normal life. I want to seek treatment abroad.”
He added, “I had dreams of becoming a football player. My aspirations were shattered. How can I play football again? I used to go to the fields with my friends, play football, run, and have fun.”
“And the boy Abu al-Rous concluded, ‘Very upset, I want to go seek treatment abroad.”
The Israeli war on Gaza
The Israeli war on Gaza witnessed around 1600 massacres committed by the Israeli occupation against civilians in various locations in the region. This was carried out by targeting homes, residential neighborhoods, schools, and churches, with no prior warning, leading to the deaths of thousands of children, women, and elderly as martyrs.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a humanitarian ceasefire lasting for four days, extendable, through Qatari, Egyptian, and American mediation. It came into effect on Friday morning and included the release of 150 male and female prisoners, including children and women, from Israeli occupation prisons. In return, 50 female prisoners from the civilian detainees held by the Palestinian resistance in Gaza were released.
Additionally, about 200 trucks carrying humanitarian aid, including food and fuel, were allowed to enter Gaza. This came after the blockade imposed by the Israeli occupation on the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war declared on October 7th of the past year.
Over 15,000 Palestinian martyrs, mostly civilians, lost their lives in the Israeli war on Gaza, and more than 40,000 others were injured in various degrees, according to the latest statistics from the Gaza Government Media Office.
