Golden Gesture of Compassion: Egyptian’s Life Savings Transformed into Hope for Gaza

Watan-An Egyptian citizen donated his “life savings,” a 50-gram gold ingot that he had been saving to use as a down payment for a house or apartment for himself and his family. However, he decided to relinquish it “in support of the people of Gaza and hoping for what Allah has, which is better and more lasting,” according to his description.

Activists on social media circulated an image of a message written by the donor, who did not disclose his name. In the message addressed to the charitable foundation “Marsal” and its audience, he explained that he made this donation for the “honorable people of Gaza, its steadfast defenders, and those with victory, patience, and virtue.”

The anonymous donor added in his message: “The gold ingot, the price of which I had been collecting for years to present as a down payment for a house or apartment for myself and my family.”

He continued: “However, the duty of the time and the reality is that we offer it to you to be auctioned publicly for the public, for the people of Gaza who have lost their money, homes, and lives.”

“What is with Allah is better”

The donor continued, stating, “I am certain that what is with Allah is better and more lasting,” and he concluded, citing the following verse from the Quran: “Here you are – those invited to spend in the cause of Allah – but among you are those who withhold [out of greed]. And whoever withholds only withholds [benefit] from himself; and Allah is the Free of need, while you are the needy. And if you turn away [from the needy], He will replace you with another people; then they will not be the likes of you.”

Hiba Rashid, the founder and CEO of the charitable foundation “Marsal” in Egypt, had announced the public auction of the “50-gram gold ingot” after it was donated to support the people of Gaza, who have been under Israeli bombardment for more than 70 days.
