Watan-48% of American youth say they believe that Israel intentionally kills civilians amid the ongoing war in Gaza.
Meanwhile, three-quarters of them say Israel is not doing enough to avoid civilian casualties, according to a new poll published by The New York Times.
The survey revealed a wide generation gap between those aged 18 to 29 who criticize President Joe Biden’s approach to the war in Gaza and support for Israel, and those aged 65 and above who mostly insist that the United States should continue its support for Israel in the war on Gaza.
In most questions surveyed by The New York Times, younger Americans criticized the Israeli war in Gaza, with nearly 70% saying that Israel should stop the war even if it does not achieve its goals of securing prisoners and eliminating Hamas.
A great deal of sympathy from the Palestinians
The survey also found that a larger percentage of young people, 46%, said they empathize more with Palestinians than those who said they empathize with Israel, which was 27%.
Moreover, more than 70% of the young Americans included in the survey stated that they do not agree with the way Biden is handling the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in general.
It is worth noting that many human rights groups have warned that Israel violates international law and rules of war, and the occupation is committing acts of genocide against the Palestinian people.
Since the beginning of the war, the United States has provided full support to Israel through diplomatic backing and military aid in the billions of dollars.
Scrutiny of American Support
The U.S. military support to Israel is undergoing further scrutiny following reports that Israel used white phosphorus, supplied by the United States, against civilians.
The war has also sparked significant reactions within the United States, with large pro-Palestinian marches taking place across the country, especially in major cities, regularly.
Between October 7th and November 26th, there were 1,869 protests and other actions in support of Palestine, compared to 433 marches and actions in support of Israel within the United States.
In addition to the critical views held by young Americans towards Israel, the new survey also revealed widespread disagreement with Biden’s handling of the conflict across all age groups included in the survey.
