Tragedy Unfolds: Failed Rescue Attempt Claims the Life of a Prisoner
Sa'ar Baruch

Watan-The Israeli occupation army has acknowledged its failure to rescue one of its captured soldiers held by Palestinian resistance in Gaza, which resulted in his death. This incident is not the first of its kind to end in failure.

The Israeli military stated that “Sa’ar Baruch,” who was taken by Hamas in an attack on October 7, 2023, was killed during a rescue operation in the Gaza Strip in December of the same year.

The Hebrew newspaper “Yedioth Ahronoth” reported that the Israeli army informed Baruch’s family that their son, Sa’ar, was killed during a rescue operation conducted by special forces on the night of December 8.

Who killed the Israeli soldier Sa’ar?

According to the source, representatives of the Israeli occupation army informed Baruch’s family that he, who was kidnapped from Kibbutz Bari in the Gaza Strip, was killed on December 8 during an attempt to rescue him by forces from a special unit.

The source continued, “It is not yet clear at this stage whether he was killed by Hamas or killed by the fire of our forces.”

The Al-Qassam Brigades thwarted an Israeli attempt to free one of the prisoners in Gaza, a fierce confrontation that ended in a humiliating defeat for the occupation.

The newspaper, in a report written by “Yoav Zitun,” noted that on December 9, the day after the rescue attempt, Kibbutz Bari announced Baruch’s death in captivity.

Aidan Baruch, Sa’ar’s brother in the kibbutz, was killed when the two tried to escape through a window of their home. Hamas announced on December 9 the death of the prisoner during an Israeli rescue operation and released a video.

The occupation disregards its captives

On its part, the Islamic Resistance Movement “Hamas” stated that the Israeli occupation “does not care” about the lives of its captives in Gaza, following a failed attempt to liberate the soldier “Sa’ar Baruch,” which resulted in his death.

Last December, the military wing of the Hamas movement announced that an Israeli soldier, held captive, was killed during clashes between its fighters and a special Israeli force attempting a rescue operation.

Hamas stated in a release, “A special Zionist force was detected while attempting to advance to liberate one of the enemy’s captives, leading to clashes that resulted in the killing and injuring of members of the force.”

According to the statement, “The warplanes (Israeli) intervened and bombed the area with a series of airstrikes to cover their withdrawal.”

While no statement was issued by the occupation at that time confirming the death of the captive soldier Baruch, Hamas announced the identity of the captive soldier killed, stating his name as Sa’ar Baruch (25 years old), along with his identification number (207775032).
