Houthi Response to Security Council’s Resolution on Red Sea Attacks: Calls for Immediate Action

Watan-The Houthi group commented on the resolution adopted by the Security Council condemning Houthi attacks in the Red Sea.

The International Security Council approved a resolution presented by the United States to condemn Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea and call for an immediate end to the attacks. The resolution, drafted by the United States and Japan, was adopted with the support of 11 members, while four members abstained from voting.

The resolution emphasizes the necessity to protect maritime navigation security in the Red Sea. It calls on the Houthis to immediately halt attacks that obstruct international trade, undermine navigation rights and freedoms, as well as regional peace and security.

In response, Mohammad Ali al-Houthi, a member of the Supreme Political Council of the Houthi group “Ansar Allah,” stated: “We demand that the Israeli entity immediately cease all attacks that obstruct life and its continuity in Gaza, undermining rights, freedoms, regional peace, and security.”

He added in a tweet on his “Telegram” account: “We demand the Security Council to immediately lift the siege on two million and three hundred thousand people due to the Israeli-American siege, which has become a deadly weapon, turning Gaza into the largest prison where collective criminal punishment is practiced.”

And he continued: “We affirm the obligation to defend against injustice as dictated by our religion and values. The actions of the Yemeni armed forces fall within the framework of legitimate defense, and any action will have a reaction. Any country bears the responsibility for aggression, defense, and protection of the usurping entity that commits massacres under American and British protection.”

Al-Houthi stated: “We inform the peoples of the world that the resolution adopted regarding navigation security in the Red Sea is a political game, and the United States is the one violating international law.”

The Houthi group “Ansar Allah” states that it will continue attacks on Israeli ships or those affiliated with the occupation heading towards it. This is done as part of exerting pressure on the occupation to halt its ongoing hostilities against the Gaza Strip.
