Al Jazeera Correspondent Injured in Israeli Airstrike

Watan-Journalist Ismail Abu Omar has joined the list of Al Jazeera correspondents targeted by the Israeli army in its ongoing war on the Gaza Strip.

Video footage has been circulated showing the initial moments of Ismail Abu Omar and his colleague, photographer Ahmed Matar, being injured after being bombed by Israeli drones north of Rafah.

Al Jazeera reported that its correspondent Ismail Abu Omar was injured in an airstrike by an Israeli drone north of the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip. It added that the Israeli airstrike also resulted in serious injuries to colleague photographer Ahmed Matar.

Both Ismail Abu Omar and Ahmed Matar were transferred to the European Gaza Hospital for surgical operations.

Ismail Abu Omar’s foot was amputated

In a related context, Al Jazeera correspondent Moumen Al-Sharafi clarified that his colleague Ismail Abu Omar’s condition required foot amputation.

It is worth noting that many journalists and correspondents of Al Jazeera have been targeted during the war on Gaza, including the martyr Samer Abu Dakka, as well as the targeting of Al Jazeera’s Gaza bureau chief Wael al-Dahdouh, who was injured in one of the attacks, and lost many of his family members due to other attacks.

Al Jazeera correspondents Moumen Al-Sharafi and Anas Al-Sharif also lost members of their families due to the Israeli aggression.
