In Disguise: Israelis Assume Palestinian Roles in Gaza War Simulation
Israelis dress like Palestinians in a war game set in Gaza.. Story stirs controversy.

Watan-A live simulation game allowing Israelis to “play as agents in Shifa Hospital in Gaza” has sparked heated reactions online.

“Fauda: Explosive Lab” is an escape room in Tel Aviv, based on the controversial Israeli Netflix series Fauda. Participants pay to pretend they are Israeli agents sent to Gaza, according to the “forward” website.

The game requires them to disguise themselves as Palestinians and make their way to a filming location simulating Shifa Hospital in Gaza.

In a fictional version of the hospital’s emergency room, players use fake guns to shoot at fake Palestinian fighters attacking them through the windows.

From there, players must enter a tunnel beneath the simulated Shifa, where their mission is to neutralize a chemical bomb aimed at Tel Aviv.

The real Shifa Hospital in Gaza was subjected to an Israeli siege lasting several days in November, resulting in numerous civilian casualties, including the tragic deaths of infant children.

The displaced and medical staff at Shifa Hospital were subjected to a siege that resulted in the deaths of many of them.

Since then, the hospital has faced further attacks. According to a report from Médecins Sans Frontières in late January, the hospital “suffered severe damage and is barely functioning.”

Despite the Israeli army claiming since October that Hamas maintains a command and control center beneath Shifa, it has failed to substantiate this.

Last week, the International Committee of the Red Cross warned of a “catastrophic” healthcare situation in Gaza, with only three functioning hospitals left in the besieged enclave. But in Tel Aviv, Shifa Hospital has become a source of entertainment.

Eric Turkienich, the businessman behind the popular escape room, said Israelis “want to kick some Arabs.”

The escape room opened in 2016 following the debut of Fauda on Netflix, but Turkienich noted that business has flourished since January, with most customers opting to play the game set in Shifa Hospital over others.

Turkienich mentioned visitors to the escape room included Israelis evacuated from the area near the Lebanese border, a unit of Israeli soldiers in military attire, and even a soldier who recently returned from Gaza on his first night out with his wife.

One user on the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, criticized the escape room, writing, “There is a lot to be said about the startup culture that constantly invents new awful things.”

Many social media users mocked the fact that all players are guaranteed to win the game.
