Watan-A Russian doctor stated that frequent masturbation, or what is known as “secret habit,” could potentially lead to the development of prostatitis.
This contradicts the common belief that masturbation might be beneficial for the prostate, despite the lack of conclusive evidence for such claims.
Masturbation, or self-stimulation of the male and female genital organs to achieve sexual pleasure without sexual intercourse with another partner, varies in its perceived benefits and harms. Some argue that it has benefits for men, such as relieving congestion in their reproductive organs.
Dr. Dmitry Korolyov, a specialist in urological diseases and male health, emphasized in an interview with the Russian website “Gazeta.Ru” that prostatitis is inflammation of the prostate gland and can develop due to stagnation of prostatic secretions.
To prevent its development, regular sexual activity with a partner is necessary, and masturbation can contribute to the progression of the disease.
Korolyov, who is also an associate professor at the Institute of Urology and Human Reproductive Health at Sechenov University, added: “If a person does not have a sexual partner and let’s assume he masturbates, this is also not entirely good.”
Prostate Gland
Despite the prostate gland, which is about the size of a walnut and located directly under the bladder in men, appearing to empty, it is not physiological because there is no physical activity; it remains in one position.
Korolyov explained to the source that frequent masturbation itself can cause chronic prostatitis, so it’s important to engage in sexual intercourse with a partner.
According to the doctor, to avoid the development of congestive prostatitis, “normal” sexual activity is necessary – about 2-3 times a week.
He said that intimate relations with a partner are not necessary every day; twice a day is sufficient, depending on the individual and their sexual partner.
He emphasized that it should be considered that there are scientific studies indicating that frequent sexual activity (several times a day) can also lead to the development of prostatitis. The specialist added that everything should be done in moderation.
Healthy Lifestyle
In addition to this, it’s important to follow a healthy lifestyle, adhere to a healthy diet, control body weight, quit smoking and alcohol consumption, and include physical activity in your life.
