Controversy at International Islamic Sciences University: Students Expelled for Gaza Solidarity

Watan-The decision by the Council of Deans at the International Islamic Sciences University to permanently expel 3 students has sparked harsh criticism, including a statement issued by the “Jordanian Student Observatory.”

The observatory stated, as reported by “Watan”: “The Jordanian Student Observatory has been monitoring the issuance of the final expulsion penalty against three students from the International Islamic Sciences University, one of whom had only one exam left, after they performed absentee funeral prayers for the souls of Gaza martyrs.”

The statement added: “We, at the observatory, condemn the International Islamic Sciences University’s resort to these arbitrary punishments, which clearly violate the students’ rights and infringe upon their freedoms.”

This comes “at a time when universities should be a haven for expressing national issues, including the Gaza issue, which enjoys popular national consensus,” according to the observatory’s statement.

Student Osama Khalid Al-Juhani posted: “Final expulsion for me and two of my colleagues at the university for the cause that unites us all,” and concluded by saying, “Our determination will not falter.”

A human rights statement condemns the International Islamic Sciences University in Jordan

The statement demanded that the administration of the International Islamic Sciences University in Jordan “urgently reverse these penalties, which harm the educational process in Jordanian universities and reinstate the students to their seats without any restriction on their rights.”

It’s worth noting that the students were informed of the expulsion decision after they submitted an appeal.

Student Osama Al-Juhani mentioned that the university informed him of the final expulsion decision against him and two of his colleagues.

Al-Juhani attributed the punishment to participating in events supporting Gaza and encouraging the organization of activities in support of resistance.

This is not the first time such a decision has been issued, as the Applied Sciences University previously issued a final expulsion decision against student Ahmed Haider due to content related to Palestinian resistance.
