Watan-The appearance of mysterious cracks in a certain area of Libya has sparked fear and panic among the citizens, specifically in the “Al Subeia” region south of Tripoli. This phenomenon, which is strange and unprecedented, has caused alarm among the locals.
Residents were surprised to find longitudinal cracks appearing in several farms in the Ouled Abu Aisha area south of the Libyan capital, some reaching lengths of 15 meters and widths of 4 meters.
Numerous photos and videos circulated on social media, showing significant cracks in a farm in the Al Subeia region. This unprecedented occurrence has heightened concerns among the residents.
The municipal council of Al Subeia acknowledged that these ground cracks have spread to multiple locations, reaching depths of up to 4 meters and widths of 3 meters. Consequently, the municipal guard teams and environmental sanitation authorities were summoned to inspect this phenomenon and investigate its causes.
Ministry of Environment takes action
The Ministry of Environment also took action, announcing the dispatch of a team from its environmental monitoring department to assess the ground cracks occurring in one of the farms in the municipality of Al Subeia. A report will be prepared and submitted to the relevant authorities within the ministry to determine the causes and assess the severity of the situation.
The Agricultural Police posted a statement on their Facebook account, stating: “Due to what the media has reported about the existence of cracks in some farms in the Ouled Abu Aisha area of Al Subeia municipality, the Agricultural Police Center in Souq Al Khamees, affiliated with the Four Corners Directorate, headed to the farms in the Ouled Abu Aisha area of Al Subeia municipality.”
Deep cracks
Deep cracks were found, measuring 15 meters in length and 4 meters in width, extending to olive trees. Similar cracks were discovered in other farms, with lengths of up to 200 meters and depths of half a meter, located approximately 20 meters away from the agricultural well.
The police urged the relevant authorities to promptly intervene, investigate the causes of this phenomenon, and address it.
Dr. Saleh Al-Sadiq, Director of Environmental Sanitation Affairs in Al Subeia, clarified during a visit to the site that these cracks occurred in three semi-circular points within a citizen’s farm in the mentioned area and do not pose any immediate danger.
Dr. Saleh affirmed that a team of specialists and technicians will be tasked with monitoring these cracks, identifying their causes, and addressing them to ensure the safety of citizens and the environment.
