Historic Gesture: Israeli Delegation Sets Foot in Saudi Arabia for UNESCO Conference

Watan- In a move that signals a potential thaw in relations, an Israeli delegation has made an unprecedented visit to Saudi Arabia to attend a UNESCO conference. This development comes despite Israel’s previous withdrawal from the organization and is seen by many as a tentative step towards normalization between the two Middle Eastern powers.

The delegation’s visit follows reports that Saudi Arabia had denied visa applications for two Israeli ministers. However, the current delegation, led by Deputy Director of the Foreign Ministry, Amir Weissbrod, has been received without any public objections from Saudi officials or other Arab nations in attendance.

The UNESCO “World Heritage Conference”, taking place in Riyadh from September 10 to 25, has become the backdrop for this historic interaction. While the Saudi government has not officially commented on the visit, their longstanding position has been that normalization with Israel would only be considered following a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
