Watan-Iraq shook in the past hours as an explosion targeted a military base in the middle of the country, resulting in the death of one person and the injury of eight others.
Video clips emerged showing massive flames engulfing the military base.
A military official said the explosion targeted a military base, where Iraqi army forces and members of the Popular Mobilization Forces, which have been integrated into the Iraqi security forces, are stationed.
Reuters quoted two security sources as saying that the explosion at the military base south of Baghdad was the result of an unknown source airstrike.
Meanwhile, CNN reported, citing an Iraqi security source, that the massive explosions occurred in an ammunition depot at a base belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces in Babil.

Popular Mobilization Forces’ response to the attack In response to the attack, the Popular Mobilization Forces stated that an investigation team immediately arrived at the scene.
They also added that there were injuries and material damage caused by an explosion at a Popular Mobilization Forces headquarters at the military base in northern Babil.
So far, no entity has claimed responsibility for this explosion.

Coinciding with the attack on Iran This attack comes less than 24 hours after the explosions that rocked the Iranian city of Isfahan on Friday morning.
The city of Isfahan, which houses nuclear facilities and an important military base, as well as Isfahan International Airport, witnessed explosions on Friday morning, while the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that there was no damage to Iranian nuclear sites in the city.
