Syrian President Appoints Brother Maher Al-Sharaa as Secretary-General of the Presidency

Maher Al-Sharaa to serve as key liaison between the presidency and government bodies, while overseeing security, protocol, and logistics at the presidential palace.

Watan-A local Syrian newspaper reported, citing what it described as “informed sources” in Damascus, that Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa has appointed his brother, Maher Al-Sharaa, as Secretary-General of the Presidency.

According to the newspaper’s sources, Maher Al-Sharaa—who previously served as Minister of Health in the former caretaker government—will take on several responsibilities under this appointment. Chief among them is acting as the main liaison between the President and other government bodies.

He will also serve as Chief of Staff to the President and will be directly responsible for all protocols, ceremonies, and scheduling.

The sources added that Maher Al-Sharaa will also be in charge of the President’s security and escort team, and will head the logistical team responsible for all facilities, services, and operational needs of the presidential palace.
