Oman Floods: Scenes of Tragedy and Resilience Amidst Nature’s Fury

Watan-The impactful scenes continue to emerge from the Sultanate of Oman, following the country’s exposure to a rainstorm that resulted in violent floods and flash floods.

In a poignant scene, a video circulated described as breathtaking, showing a father embracing his daughter amidst the floods in Oman in an attempt to survive, while the sounds of children’s screams and panic were heard in a nearby school.

In the video, raging floods were seen sweeping through the streets and submerging cars, while the father tried to get his young daughter out of her school as the rain poured heavily.

This comes as a teacher at an Omani nursery school documented the difficult moments for this father, who stood amidst the floods clutching his child, unaware of what he should do and where to escape.

Deadly floods in the Sultanate of Oman

Sudden floods caused by heavy rains in the Sultanate of Oman resulted in significant material losses and led to the deaths of at least 18 people.

The National Emergency Management Committee in the Sultanate stated that among the victims were approximately 10 students who were swept away by a car, in addition to an adult.

Civil defense officials stated that the death toll increased due to the rains witnessed in the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, one of the most affected areas in the Sultanate.

The Omani News Agency reported that the police and army were deployed in the governorate to evacuate citizens from areas inundated by floods.

Rescue operations continue

The Civil Defense Directorate in the Sultanate of Oman continues rescue operations for those stranded and affected by the floods and flash floods.

The Civil Defense and Ambulance page in the Sultanate of Oman shared a video on the “X” platform of a dangerous rescue operation.

Rescue teams in the Muscat Governorate dealt with an incident involving a heavy vehicle and a person trapped in the course of Wadi Al Khoud in the Wilayat of Seeb, where the teams managed to rescue him, and he is in good health.

It added that rescue teams in the Directorate of Civil Defense and Ambulance in the Interior Governorate managed to rescue six people trapped in their vehicle in the course of one of the valleys in the Wilayat of Nizwa, all of them in good health.

Rain chances still exist in the Sultanate

Omani meteorology reported the continued flow of high and medium clouds over the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, with chances of scattered rainfall in the coming period.

It stated through its platform on “X”: “Low clouds or fog are forming over the governorates of Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, South Al Sharqiyah, Dhofar, and parts of the coast of the Arabian Sea.”
