Rome to Host Second Round of Indirect Iran-US Talks, Oman Confirms

Oman announces Rome as the venue for upcoming nuclear discussions between Iran and the US, aiming for a lasting and fair agreement.

Watan-Oman decisively ended the ongoing debate on Thursday evening regarding the location of the second round of indirect Iranian-American talks, announcing that the Italian capital, Rome, will host the meeting next Saturday.

This was confirmed by the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on its official account on Platform X, ending the confusion that had prevailed in recent days regarding the venue for the second round of talks.

The statement quoted an unnamed spokesperson for the Omani Foreign Ministry as saying:”Rome will be the venue for the second round of talks between representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States next Saturday.”

He added: “These talks aim to achieve further progress toward reaching a fair, binding, and lasting agreement.”

Rome to Host Iran-US Nuclear Talks

The Foreign Ministry expressed Oman‘s welcome in facilitating this meeting and its mediation in Rome, which was chosen as the host location for “logistical reasons” that were not specified.

The statement continued: “The Sultanate expresses its gratitude to the Italian government for its valuable support in the preparations related to this important meeting.”

Last Saturday, Muscat hosted the first round of talks between Iran and Washington, which was welcomed by Arab countries. The White House described the talks as “very positive and constructive.”

On the eve of the first round of negotiations, the White House warned of “costly American options” should a new agreement on Iran’s nuclear program not be reached, stressing that President Donald Trump prefers to resolve this issue through direct talks with Tehran.

The United States, along with Israel and other countries, accuses Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons, while Tehran insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, including electricity generation.
