French Council of State Approves Hijab Ban for Female Lawyers
The ruling affirms the prohibition on wearing items like the hijab, emphasizing professional neutrality in legal practice.
Watan-The French Council of State, the highest administrative court, has approved the decision to ban female lawyers from wearing various symbols, including religious ones, such as the hijab.
Local media reported on Wednesday that the Council of State discussed the objection to a previous decision made by the National Bar Association of France.
The Council of State upheld the decision that prevents the wearing of various distinguishing symbols by those working in the legal profession, including the hijab.
In September 2023, the French National Bar Association agreed on a proposal to prohibit lawyers from wearing any distinguishing symbols while working.
Following this, the French Bar Association filed an objection with the Council of State, claiming that the decision violated the independence of lawyers.
