Gaza Hospitals on the Brink: Fuel Crisis Threatens Total Medical Collapse
Health Ministry warns that remaining hospitals in Gaza may shut down within hours due to Israel’s blockade and fuel restrictions.
Watan-The Ministry of Health in Gaza has issued a dire warning that the few remaining hospitals still functioning in the Strip are on the verge of shutting down due to Israel’s ongoing blockade, which has prevented the entry of medicine and fuel.
The ministry stated that Israeli occupation forces are preventing international and UN organizations from accessing hospital fuel storage sites under the pretext that they are located in “red zones.” This blockade, it emphasized, is severely obstructing the supply of fuel to hospitals, which rely entirely on generators to power critical departments.
According to the ministry, fuel reserves at hospitals will only last two more days. The shortage has reached a “critical phase,” with hospitals possibly halting operations within hours. The Al-Shifa Medical Complex and the Arab National Hospital are expected to be forced out of service within 24 hours if fuel does not arrive.
Kidney Dialysis Center Shut Down Due to Bombing
In related news, Dr. Khalil Al-Daqran, spokesman for Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, announced the complete shutdown of the dialysis unit due to Israeli attacks.
According to hospital administration, Israeli bombing days ago damaged a key building, destroying the hospital’s main dialysis filtration unit. The attack also directly targeted ten sterile water tanks essential for operating dialysis machines. Seven tanks were completely destroyed, and three remain under repair.
This has had a devastating impact on hundreds of kidney failure patients, who rely entirely on dialysis sessions for survival. The shutdown has worsened their already dire conditions and placed them in life-threatening situations.
The hospital administration held Israel fully responsible for what it called a heinous humanitarian crime and a clear violation of international humanitarian law and the sanctity of medical facilities.
The Ministry of Health called on the World Health Organization and all international health and human rights bodies to condemn the attack and take urgent action to protect the remaining healthcare infrastructure in Gaza.
