UAE Breaks Arab Consensus by Backing Trump’s Plan to Displace Palestinians
Abu Dhabi’s stance on forced Palestinian relocation raises concerns about its growing ties with Tel Aviv and Washington.
Watan-The UAE deviates from the Arab consensus rejecting Trump’s plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump shared a statement on his “Truth Social” platform attributed to the UAE’s ambassador to Washington, Yousef Al Otaiba, in which he did not express any opposition to the plan. This was perceived as yet another UAE attempt to court Washington and reaffirm its support for Tel Aviv.
UAE Supports Forced Displacement
Since Trump announced his plan to forcibly relocate two million Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt, Jordan, and possibly Saudi Arabia, Arab nations have collectively rejected such measures, reaffirming Palestinians’ right to remain on their land. However, Abu Dhabi broke this unified stance, raising questions about its true role in the region and its intertwined relations with Tel Aviv and Washington.
Al Otaiba’s move placed Arab leaders such as Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, King Abdullah II, and Mohammed bin Salman in a difficult position. It appears that the UAE has abandoned its support for them in favor of strengthening ties with Trump, who has never hidden his preference for Saudi money over Mohammed bin Zayed’s strategic maneuvers.
Trump and Bin Zayed… A New Alliance or Political Maneuvering?
Unlike the current president, Joe Biden, whose relations with some Gulf leaders—especially Saudi Arabia—have been strained, Mohammed bin Zayed seems to see Trump as the ideal ally for repositioning himself in regional politics. While Biden distanced himself from Riyadh and gave Abu Dhabi more leeway, the UAE appears to be betting on Trump’s return to the White House, strengthening its ties with him in advance.
Unwavering Support for Tel Aviv at Any Cost
Since signing normalization agreements with the Israeli occupation, the UAE has played a pivotal role in supporting Tel Aviv, both economically and politically. Its recent stance on Palestinian displacement is yet another indication that it fully aligns itself with the occupation—regardless of the consequences this may have in the Arab world.
